Dursley in Bloom - Small Town Category Winners 2017
The 2017 Small Town Winner's Award
It is a golden year for the volunteers of Dursley in Bloom.
At the 2017 Heart of England award ceremony in Warwick Castle, the Dursley in Bloom not only retained their Gold accreditation, but for the first time were announced as the winners of the Small Town Category.
The awards were presented to Dursley in Bloom Chair, Penny Hyde, Dursley in Bloom volunteer and Town Councillor Mandy Woodward and the Town Clerk, John Kay.
The Town Council are proud to support Dursley in Bloom and the volunteers should be extremely pleased at this fantastic achievement.
Penny said "Much credit to our success goes to my predecessor Dave Butterfield and the other founding members of Dursley In Bloom. Particular mention must be made to Kitts Green Nursery, Dursley Rotary Club, Dursley Lions, Solid Ltd and Sainsbury's for their generosity, as well as continued support of John Kay, Town Clerk and the staff of Dursley Town Council".
Dursley in Bloom 2017
The Dursley in Bloom team have been busy planning and making improvements in time for the 2017 "in Bloom" judging day, scheduled for Thursday 20th July.
There have been a number of new half barrel planters in Parsonage Street and many of the old planters have been replanted and spruced up.
The old planter on Whiteway Hill is being replaced thanks to The Dursey Lions who have provided a replacement and there will be over 40 new hanging baskets being erected in the town over the next few weeks.
The volunteers of Dursley in Bloom meet monthly to discuss plans for the future floral displays in the town. The team encourages local businesses and organisations to become involved in a series of ideas including the Secret Garden behind the Chantry Centre, ideas from Sixth Formers at Rednock School ( as part of their studies) for more hanging baskets in the town and also incorporating support from The Peak Academy students and staff as well as local Cubs and Scouts.
