Welcome to the Virtual Dursley Fireworks 2020

Welcome to the Virtual Dursley Fireworks 2020

Sat, 07 Nov 2020 10:00

A virtual event for the whole community

Sadly we are unable to bring you the Dursley Fireworks event this year in the usual way because of the current pandemic and the rules and regulations around keeping us all safe, however we wanted to still offer an opportunity to bring the Dursley community together in a virtual way. We are also offering this online event out to our Guiding community across the world to join us too.

The event will take place on Saturday 7th November 2020, the day we would have been standing in the field for the Fireworks, although these special pages and all the activities will remain on the website beyond the event so if you can't join us on the day, feel free to take part at a later date.

As the day goes on buttons will appear below to link you to all the activities. We will also be sharing lots of these activities on our Facebook Page.

Our activities are are based around the theme of the fireworks and, for one year only, will also feature virtual bonfires!

Pre-event activities will be launched on Saturday 24th October to give you a little something to begin to work on during half term and to share with us too.

10am Gates Open!

Craft Tent Opens
The craft tent will be full of a range of crafty activities for all ages,. You can have a go at as many as you like.
12 noon Who, What, Why, When & How?
This section of the day will be packed full of activities to help you explore the history behind Gunpowder Plot as well as the science that gets those wonderful colours and explosions into the skies above us.
2pm Entertainment on the Stage
We'll be sharing some fabulous tunes but we'll also be encouraging you all to get up and strut your funky stuff. We'd love to see your talent. Plus lots of other stage related activities
4pm Food Tent Opens
We've got lots of foodie activities for you to have a go at. We've included sweet and savoury activities, there is something for all ages.
6pm Dursley Fireworks Reminiscing
Sadly no real fireworks this evening but we'll be sharing some video footage from our past years.
7pm Beer Tent Opens
This is an adult only zone! We've got some fabulous activities for you to have a go at and see if you can be crowned the Dursley Taskmaster Champion!
How will it work?

We will be launching all the activities on our website and on our Facebook Page. We hope you will share with us what you get up to during the day to create a real community experience. You will be able to post as comments to our posts on Facebook or you can post to the page yourself to appear in the Community tab. You'll be able to see all the comments and posts from everyone else too. We want you to share photos and videos with everyone else.

Make a donation

We would usually be raising funds for Guiding adventures, for the other community groups who help us run the event on the day and of course a large portion of the funds we raise goes to our chosen charity each year. However as we're in a pandemic and our units are trying to run a blended offer of virtual and limited face to face meetings (with much restriction and form filling I might add) we are asking the people of the community to make a contribution towards the event to help our units stay afloat in these choppy waters. We are having to spend addition funds on being Covid-secure, we're trying to keep our young members connected by finding new ways of working, but we still have some of the bills to cover such as our Annual Membership to Girlguiding nationally each year to cover us with safeguarding support, insurance, and much, much more. We are grateful for all contributions, however big or small, but we know some people out there are also in challenging circumstances so please only give what you can.
