The Vibe Youth Centre – 2nd Anniversary
The Vibe Youth Centre celebrates its second anniversary on Monday the 30th January and has been successfully hosting a wide variety of youth sessions over this two-year period.
In September 2015, the Town Council appointed The Door Youth Project to facilitate four weekly youth sessions in The Vibe. The sessions are currently held on Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday and Friday afternoon/evenings and regularly attract over 30 young people.
An extended session on the 25th November 2016, during the Town's Christmas Light Switch-On event, recorded over 60 individuals visiting the facility during the evening.
Victoria Robson, Director of Service Delivery for The Door Youth Project said "The Vibe is an excellent space for young people to meet up, feel safe and socialise with friends, it also provides great facilities to accommodate their needs and have a great time with us."
The venue continues to host a variety of sessions in addition to the Town Council funded sessions and the Town Council have successfully obtained funding from Gloucestershire County Council and the Police Crime Commissioner for Gloucestershire which has resulted in special sessions being held; these have included Employment/Education events, Family Cafés and study/revision sessions for nearby Rednock school pupils.
The popular venue is regularly hired by a number of youth service and charity organisations, sessions have included a range of one to one support sessions and youth activities by ConnectAT, Hope Support Services and the Stroud Youth Forum.
Ness Holbrook; Hope Support Services said "The Vibe is a great space for young people and has been an excellent resource for us to be able to access as a small charity working within Gloucestershire. We are very lucky to have such an amazing resource available to youth organisations."
Molly Jones of The Participation People said "Cam and Dursley Youth Forum love coming to The Vibe because it's a big, open space that's clean and warm. The colour scheme gives off a positive vibe that energises our work and all the different facilities mean that we can take a break when we need to. It's a great place to do a mix of serious work and have a bit of fun".
The Youth Centre is available for private hire and can accommodate parties of up to 60 people with full kitchen facilities. The fully equipped "tech" room can accommodate smaller groups of 12 for meetings and has full internet access.
Mayor for Dursley, Cllr Neil Grecian said "I am delighted to see so many local organisations using this excellent facility and the consistent high attendance for the Town Council funded sessions. I would like to thank our partners in this project at The Tabernacle URC and The Door Youth Project for their continued support to manage and facilitate this busy youth centre."
